Throughout this semester of college, this course has been my favorite one I have taken. I have enjoyed learning and experiencing all of the aspects involved in being a teacher. After completing this course and my service learning placement, I have decided that I do want to become a teacher. I have decided that even though teaching is really hard work I want to pursue it. Some of the things that helped me decide that I want to pursue teaching are the curriculum you get to teach.
and the relationships you build with students.

While I was completing all of the online assignments and activities in this course, I learned a lot about what you get the opportunity to teach as a teacher. Doing the activity where we researched the standards in Utah for teaching helped me get to see how many different areas you get to teach as an elementary school teacher. I liked that I would get to teach my students math and science, but also we would get to explore social studies and literature together. I also learned in the course the many different ways that I would get to teach students. Researching how to make learning enjoyable and interesting for kids helped me to learn how fun and interactive teaching can be. Teaching kids should be anything but a boring lecture! My service learning also showed me how rewarding teaching students is. When you see them finally get a concept or learn new information and then use it, it is the best feeling. I even got to practice teaching a few math concepts to kids in my placement which further helped me to know how much I love it.

One thing that is difficult for the course to truly show is the relationships that are built with the students you work with. In my service learning placement, I got to see this in real life. I found myself looking forward to seeing specific students and follow up on exciting things they had told me about. It made going back after spring break easier because I was looking forward to hearing all about their trips they had previously mentioned. I had some students make me artwork that made me feel so special. I loved getting to know students likes and dislikes and getting to know what makes each student unique. This is one of the main reasons that I am excited to teach in the future. I can see how each student truly becomes like one of your kids. Seeing them learn and grow is even more rewarding when you have seen how far they have had to come to get to where they are. This was one of the coolest things about the service learning placement to me.

Now that I have learned how awesome being a teacher is I am excited to get to become one! I am finishing up all of the pre-professional classes this coming fall and spring semester so that I can hopefully enter the teaching program in the fall of 2020. I am also taking the Praxis test this June so that I can have that ready for when I am entering the program. I am also going to be a substitute teacher for my job this fall which I think will help me to learn more about classroom management, a skill I am excited to learn more about in the program as it was one I struggled with during my service learning placement. I am excited for all of these steps that will eventually lead me to become a teacher!

In conclusion, I am very excited to become a teacher and pursue this career path. This course and my service learning placement have helped me to see the highs and lows of being a teacher, including building meaningful relationships with the students and getting to teach them new things. I hope that I will be able to continue learning throughout the next few years of college so that I will be prepared to become a teacher. I also hope to be able to observe other teachers to be able to become the best teacher I can possibly be. Teaching my own class of students cannot come fast enough!
